Reena and Paul have been part of my daily routine for a long time. I don’t remember when I first started setting down their story but it’s been at least a year or more since I first met them in my imagination.
Today, I had to say good-bye. It wasn’t tearful. I sent their story onto my favorite publisher in hopes that they will find a home there.
And I know their story isn’t finished. If the story is accepted, there will be a need for many changes. Editors will have questions, object to a story line or the way I present it, want clarification or an increase in conflict, emotion, tension.
So, I say good-bye for now.
We’ll meet again in revision-land. And, one day soon, I hope I’ll have the chance to introduce them and their story, set in Ocean City, Maryland, and California’s wine country, soon.
