Nanowrimo: why I love November more than ever
I’m grateful for @NaNoWriMo and all the support writers give one another to get to their goals. It’s a great way to reach your goal of becoming a novelist.

Do you NaNoWriMo? November brings lots of excitement to the year. Arriving on the sugar high of Halloween, it’s true pumpkin spice season. The fall colors are almost spent and the gardens are brown and withered. My little sailboat, forlorn and abandoned since the first chill in the air a few weeks ago, awaits its…
I’m proud of the success I’ve had during this month of crazy writing. There’s a lot to learn before you can tell a good story. But the most important lessons for beginners are these
1-Sit down.
2-Write.
I’ve been having fun on Instagram while I’m in a holding pattern, getting to know writers and readers and accounts set in the places where INN BY THE LAKE is located: Deep Creek Lake, Western Maryland, Pittsburgh and Wilmington, Delaware.
By now, National Novel Writing Month fans, you should have written 32,000 words on your latest romance/thriller/mystery/memoir/adult-fiction/YA/historical. Right. Did life get in the way for you too? I wouldn’t have spent a month deeply engaged in the places the Battle of Antietam touched.I would never have even known about a…
Are you ready for NaNoWriMo? There are as many ways to get ready as there are future novelists. Everyone I’ve talked to does something different. Until this year, I did nothing besides decide on a place, and a main character. From those meager preparations I have written three novels during NaNoWriMo or Camp NaNoWriMo. One…
I had no idea how wonderful it would be to talk to readers about my Maureen, Joe, Patrick and Eliza. It’s as if they have really jumped out of my mind and off the page and entered the world. They are living and breathing and winning the hearts of those who meet them. I’m so…
